What an interior house painting job with JMJ includes
Most interior projects we take on are a mix: a few rooms that need fresh color, ceilings that have yellowed, trim and doors that have taken years of scuffs, and a handful of nail pops or cracks nobody has gotten around to. We quote all of it on one walkthrough so you know exactly what's being done in each room.
- Walls and accent walls
- Ceilings, including stained or water-marked areas that need a stain-blocking primer
- Trim, baseboards, crown and window casings
- Interior doors and door frames
- Staircases, spindles and railings
- Basements and finished lower levels
Why Michigan walls crack and show seams
Oakland County homes run forced-air heat for months at a time. Indoor air gets dry, framing moves, and drywall seams, corner bead and old plaster cracks start to telegraph through the paint. Painting straight over them looks fine for a season and then the lines come back.
We treat those spots first. Cracks are opened up and filled, problem seams are taped or skim coated, and repairs are primed so the finish coat dries to an even sheen instead of flashing over the patches.
How we protect your home while we work
Furniture is moved to the center of the room and covered. Floors are covered with drop cloths, and anything that isn't being painted, like outlets, switch plates, hardware and fixtures, is masked or removed. At the end of every day the work area is picked up so you can still live in your house while the project is going on.
Paints we use indoors
Our standard interior finishes are Benjamin Moore Aura and Sherwin-Williams Emerald Interior. Both are washable and mildew-resistant, which matters in kitchens, bathrooms and the high-traffic hallways where most homes see wear first. Trim and doors get an enamel that cures hard enough to wipe clean.
How long it takes
A single room is often finished in one to two days. A full interior with ceilings, trim and doors takes longer, and we'll give you a schedule at the estimate so you know which rooms we're in and when.
Problems we fix
- Drywall seams and nail pops showing through paint
- Ceiling stains that bleed back through new paint
- Flat builder-grade paint that won't wash clean
- Scuffed trim and doors in hallways and stairways
- Uneven sheen where patches weren't primed
